The Letter Elle is a Sunshine Coast local artist from Buderim. Her new single “Faithful” is now available in most places online. We discuss where this song came from.
The Letter Elle –
This song is based around myself and my partner (big surprise, I know). But it’s also about much more: it’s about the way that people treated the relationship when it began because we were so young. We both knew that we wanted to spend our lives together early on (I met him when I was 17) and a lot of people kind of treated it as just a ‘young romance’ sort of situation. Now, people see us as the partnership that we are, but it’s interesting how when you’re young people just assume everything is a ‘phase’.
Where were you when this song came about? What were you up to?
I was in my first year of uni doing a production assignment. Just sitting in the rehearsal rooms trying to come up with a loop that I could build into something bigger.
What is your favourite line or lyric?
We were drawn together like fire is drawn to ice
When the sun went down I stayed and rolled the dice
Because when I’m with you I don’t feel like all we are is faithful
What inspired you to create/write this song?
I actually wrote this song specifically for an assignment, however I think it was subconsciously sparked by my relationship at the time.
Does this song have any musical influences?
This song is quite a niche neo-soul sort of genre. I don’t think I used a specific influence, however I was listening to a lot fo FELIVAND When I wrote the track..
