Sugarbag Blonde are a Sunshine Coast local band from Caloundra. “Stones” is now available in most places online. Here is the low down as to how this song came about.
Sugarbag Blonde –
It represents some kind of ‘Road of Perdition’. It’s the story of this nomadic journey through some sort of purgatory. I think everyone realises at some point this is a solitary existence. We have people in our lives but you can never really experience what someone else is living through. If a Salvador Dali painting came to life I’d imagine it would be somewhat like this.
Where were you when this song came about? What were you up to?
This was very much a collaborative effort, James our bass player had the bones of the song and a couple verses worked out. We jammed it out and Scott would go away and hone the lyrics, coming back with another verse and a chorus and bridge. Then we work to bring it together.
Does this song have any musical influences?
It’s quite eclectic; There 60’s rock influences like ‘The Doors’ then it gravitates into our best take on Seattle Grunge. Dan has this kind of quirky ‘Stevie Wonder’ on steroids with this grinding gnarly Rhodes. The drums swing from Jazz to Rock and Brett seems to meld the two quite seamlessly.
