Sugarbag Blonde are a Sunshine Coast local band from Caloundra. Their new EP “California” is now available in most places online. Here is the low down as to how this song came about.
Sugarbag Blonde –
We actually recorded the entire album with a very well respected and high profile engineer, however it just went in a direction the band wasn’t happy with. In the end we decided that saving it wasn’t an option so we re-recorded the entire album again.
This was about a 2 year process, but the songs were evolving right up until the end.
Was this album recorded and put together all in the same place?
Yes the album was recorded entirely at Designer Sound Studios on the coast.
Did you try and capture any overall mood or theme?
For each song yes, but overall we wanted there to be a congruent sound across all the songs.
Does the album title reveal anything about the nature / meaning of the album?
It’s the title track from the album, which really was the catalyst for the new recording.
Were there any musical or writing influences that you had?
It’s hard to avoid your influences. As a band we have very eclectic tastes, and our song writing is a culmination of many different influences.
Any favourite or stand out songs / singles? Why these ones?
Lady in Two singles have already been released; ‘Separate Lives’ & ‘California’.
We felt they were both songs that would have appeal to a wider audience and people with varying musical tastes.
What do you think is unique about this release?
We’d like to think our song writing is distinctive; that each song is well written, thought through and that people can connect with them on different levels.
It’s well recorded and sounds great, and we are proud of what we have achieved, but we know that the material is what is most important and we are very please with the end result here.
