Stu White is a Sunshine Coast local artist from Nambour. His new release “I’ve Just Driven From Perigian” is now available in most places online. Stu has taken a moment answer a couple of questions.
Stu White –
I was driving home from Peregian one night to my home in Nambour when the song hook popped into my head.
What does “I’ve Just Driven From Perigian” mean to you??
It’s a point in time that I can return to every time I sing it.
What is your intention with this song?
It’s to reminisce on days of youth, to invite the listener to remember carefree days of adolescence- particularly for those of us who grew up around the surf culture.
What is your favourite line or lyric and why?
‘Freedom is a wave and she’s calling my name, I gotta get back soon’ it’s a call back to those feelings and memories.
What was the inspiration for “I’ve Just Driven From Perigian?”
As I continued to write the song it became an ode to surf culture and growing up on the beach. I realised it had been 30 years that spring since I first started learning to surf, so wanted to write about those memories.
–I’d like to thank Carl Jackson for his input on production, arrangements and harmonies, and Riordan Butler and Mike Turner for playing on it (electric guitar and bass respectively)
