Sari Abbott is a Sunshine Coast local artist from Sunrise Beach. Her single “Let Me Go” is now available in most places online. We discuss where this song came from.
Sari Abbott –
The purpose for ‘Let Me Go’ was to really say, hey give people space and time you love, and stand strong and be confident with yourself. Trust yourself. If you squeeze too tight and cant let someone have their space or time, it’s not healthy for either party.
What inspired you to write this song?
I was inspired to write ‘Let Me Go’ after parting from a relationship that was a little controlling, and also after losing a primary school friend. At the time I was feeling very suffocated and overwhelmed that someone young had passed, and I also felt for my school friends mother who was my very first singing teacher here on the coast. Was a real shock.
When would be a good time to listen to it? What mood does it suit?
It’s an anytime kind of song if you’re driving alone in your car or chilling in your own space.
Is your song about a feeling? what does it mean to you?
As some of the song lyrics are written ‘Give a little time back, so I can find myself. When I felt like I was losing who I was, it was a sign I was losing control of what makes me happy and losing who I was. Thinking of my singing teacher losing her daughter, I guess I didn’t want to think of her hurting and missing her.
Does this song have any musical influences?
No, it just came out on paper one day. It’s the first song I’d written on my own and I was so happy it received 2 weeks in the AMRAP Charts (Australian Music Radio Air Play) a first for me.
