DBarationX –
This album is a theoretical narrative about a day at the beach. Every song is the next step in an adventure from dawn to nightfall which mirrors the story of my life so far. Throughout the album you will hear remnants of waves crashing, crickets chirping and references to the beach.
Did you try and capture any overall mood or theme?
When I was creating the album, I knew from the start that it would be built around the beach sonically and metaphorically.
Any favourite or stand out songs / singles? Why these ones?
My favourite song on the album is definitely ‘Pursuit of Happiness’. This is because I felt like my initial vision for the song ended up being realised the most out of any other on this album. I’m proud of my production and lyrics on this song the most.
Were there any musical or writing influences that you had?
My biggest inspiration is always Kanye West. His sounds and unorthodox take at music has always made me push my own boundaries with theming, sound production and what I can create. Unoriginally, Michael Jackson has always been a favourite artist of mine. I even sampled his signature vocal inflections in the last track of this album, ‘Nightfall’. A smaller artist by the name of Lemkuuja was the person who inspired me to create this album as well as music in the first place. His lofi beat tape dubbed ‘jude.’ was my biggest inspiration of all. From the time I first heard that in January of 2018, I knew that I wanted to make music. I knew that when I had built up my skill enough, I wanted to make ‘the beach’.
What do you think is unique about this release?
I think ‘the beach’ is unique because of its attention to story telling detail. I have made a book with images, lyrics and explanations to every song and the roles they play in building on the overall narrative of the album which you can find here.
I also have a video coming to my YouTube channel DBarationX VERY SOON which will explain the meaning of the album in a different, more cinematic way.
