Ashy is a Sunshine Coast local artist from Gympie. Her new single “Closer To The Ceiling” is now available in most places online. We discuss where this song came from.
My song is about when your feeling down, when you feel like you have no energy and your mind is feeling closer to the ceiling.
Where were you when this song came about? What were you up to?
I was feeling down, so I decided to write a song and put all my feelings into paper. Through these words I could let go of some past obstacles that had been bothering me.
What is the intention with this song?
It explains that sometimes, you do not know what is going on in people’s minds. That things can get crowded in your mind. And sometimes you cannot find your way, only to find out that you’ve tripped over and stumbled across it.
What is your favourite line or lyric & why?
Two Eyes, Feeling Blind – I love the irony of these lyrics.
What inspired you to create/write this song?
My Anxiety, it has been up and down. When it got worse, I started putting words that I couldn’t speak a loud. To me, lyrics have multiple meanings, And to the ear an audience can hear the first meaning. But I only I know the real deep meaning.
Does this song have any musical influences?
A few, inspired by the lyrical meaning Vance Joy puts across and the way artists can connect through bold lyrical statements.
